Why Music?

As is stated in the Band Handbook's Letter from the Director, "the study of music has been shown to improve spatial reasoning, test taking, and overall quality of life. Students who participate in music classes like band are able to develop social competencies, emotional awareness, and aesthetic perception, not to mention leadership skills, discipline, and a willingness to learn."

Time and again, we see the impact music has on our students first-hand and how it proves to be a vital competent in their well-rounded education. Several music organizations like the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA), have put together resources that explain the benefits of being a part of, and how to support, local school music programs.

Please read the following brochures, reports, and documents to better understand why music is important, and how you can better support it.
